Swords on the Silver Screen

Have you ever watched a movie and wanted to be a part of it? Would you settle for having a part of the movie in your life? Do you like movies or TV shows based on the medieval times? How about the old Chinese and Japanese movies that features awesome sword fighting between ninjas, samurais and imperial armies? Then sword collecting could be the perfect hobby for you. It’s quite the expensive hobby once you get down to the nitty gritty of it but if you start small, then you have to start out with the cheap swords.

Actually, some movies are recognized by the swords that it has. Some eras in history have been defined by it, so why can’t Hollywood do the same to movies and TV series. Here is a list of some of the best movies that has famous swords in them:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean – The movie trilogy (soon to be with a fourth installment). Features swash-buckling scenes from great actors such as Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Johnny Depp’s character, the now famous Captain Jack Sparrow has been identified with his rusty sword. And the character of Orlando Bloom’s character is the sword smith responsible for creating one of the most recognizable swords in the entire trilogy.
  • Kill Bill – The look for Uma Thurman in her yellow jumpsuit is completed by the iconic sword that her character, simply known as “The Bride.” The katana she wields transcends through both installments of the Kill Bill franchise and dismembers quite the number of bad guys. The sword itself is even featured on the actual movie posters.
  • The Lord of the Rings – this story, this world, has had a cultural following since its inception. And when it translated into a movie trilogy totaling to more than 10 hours of film, there is bound to be a wide market for sword collectors. Throughout this epic tale, there are swords left and right that are worthy of being collected. There are swords wielded by small little hobbits, elegant and fair elves, evil and dark orcs and hopeful and enduring men.

Surely, these are just some of the movies you can start your collection with. Just look for replicas on the internet or specialized expos and trade shows and you can indeed start your sword collection with a few cheap swords before you move on to the big boys.
